PLAYING UP WINDOW IS CLOSED FOR 2018/19
Players wishing to "play up" an age group must fill out this form at least 30 days before tryouts - and have it approved by
the DOC / Coaching Liaison and current coach.

Tryout Format and Guidelines

If you've tried out for Lakeshore Select or Tri-Cities Strikers in the past, the format for this year's events and procedures will be the same as last year. Tryouts for each group will be ONE date/time unless the player has been approved to play-up and then the player will need to tryout out both nights in both age groups. We will still have independent evaluators scoring the kids and the same tryout process will occur. Team coaches will also be present at the tryouts. By making this change we will be able to issue player commitment emails sooner and allow for less wait time during this (what can be very stressful) week for our families.

Selection Criteria
The Independent and Coach Evaluations of each player contribute almost exclusively to the selection of teams based on soccer ability.  The rank-order list is used to select approximately half of the team while the remainder is selected at the coach's discretion, subject to additional criteria. This table summarizes the required number of selections based on the rank-order list at each age group.

Age Group Game Format Roster Size Ranked Selections
 U8 5 v 5 7-9 5 of top 7
 U9/U10 7 V 7 9-13 6 of top 8
 U11/U12 9 v 9 11-16 7 of top 9
 U13/U14 11 v 11 13-22 8 of top 10
 U15 and Up 11 v 11 13-22 8 of top 10

Thus 8 of the top 10 for U13 and up; 5 of 7 for U8; 6 of 8 for U9 and U10; and 7 of 9 for U11 and U12 ranked in the tryout must be selected for the team. Coaches can then draw from the list of tryout candidates as they deem appropriate to fill out the roster, with the caveat that selections should be within 5 places of the GVSA maximum roster size limit from the ranked list. For example, the maximum roster for U11 is 16, so selections should be from the top 21 ranked players.
